Art Projects
“Creativity takes courage. ”
~Henri Matisse
We are lucky to have two great moms come to our classroom throughout the year. They inspire us to explore our artistic natures! Nicole Mitchell and Laurie Caniglia know the students well and choose activities that are engaging. They also often choose art activities that lend well to writing projects and other units of study!
Mrs. Frisby and The Crow
On Monday, 2/29/16, we watched a drawing tutorial that gave an example of how to draw Mrs. Frisby and the Crow. We then spent time drawing our own versions of Mrs. Frisby and Jeremy!
Watch the Youtube video if you'd like to try your hand at drawing.

The (Almost) Heart Sculptures
On Thursday, February 4, 2016, Mrs. Mitchell and Mrs.Caniglia planned another great art activity. This one had a Valentine's Day flair with a little bit of science added. Mrs. Mitchell explained the directions to us and showed us the pictures below of what our heart sculptures "could" look like.
Before we started, Mrs. Mitchell said that she wasn't sure how it would turn out but if there's one thing we've learned in our classroom, it's that you never know if something will work or not unless you give it a try. So try we did!

What happened next was one of the funniest moments we've had in our classroom! Luckily, Thomas, one of our classroom photographers, was on hand to capture it all on camera. We didn't get the beautiful heart sculptures like those pictured above but we did get lots of laughs and as Willa put it... "We learned that art can get really messy!"

Star Wars Drawing Tutorial
On Thursday, January 7th, Mrs. Mitchell and Mrs. Caniglia visited our classroom. They located an online drawing tutorial that taught us how to sketch Star Wars Characters. The class voted on learning how to draw Chewbacca! It was challenging but we are a group of students that do not give up easily. You can find the online tutorials by clicking on the links below.

3-D Art Activity
Mrs. Mitchell and Mrs. Caniglia, our fantastic art teachers, created an engaging 3-D art experience for the class. The students were working on concepts such as; use of rulers, drawing/connecting straight lines and curved lines, use of contrasting colors and accent marks, patience and perseverance!
The final product was a picture that appears as if our hands were in 3-D. We all immediately wondered, what other images could we make into a 3-D picture using this technique?
