Planting Seeds of Creativity
and
Community Connections
We are planting seeds of creativity and community connections with Dan Koffman, a local artist from Camano Island, WA. Mr. Koffman, has created an art installation, alongside 30 other local artists, called The Camano Island Mural Project. **The project will be revealed on February 1, 2016.
The Stanwood/Camano News published an article about Dan Koffman and his project titled, Full Circle. Click on the link below to read it. Our work with Mr. Koffman was also mentioned!
The Camano Island Mural Reveal
We were buzzing with excitement as we arrived at The Koffman Gallery to see the unveiling of the 200 square foot mural designed by Dan Koffman.
The mural is made up of individual square shaped segments that were designed by 30 different local artists. The squares were then, digitally put together to form a large map of Camano Island. Dan Koffman spoke of the importance of coming Full Circle while bringing together the past, present and future.

Destination: Future Project
We are creating something similar to The Camano Island Mural Project in our classroom, but it will be titled, Destination: Future.
We started the project by watching the video titled, Moonshot Thinkers because we are a classroom of Moonshot Thinkers!

Rocket to the Future
We are then going to be taking a rocket to the future, (figuratively not literally, as we say in our room), and each student will artistically design a section of the rocket by showing what they will take with them to the future.
Each student will be working with two elements in their design: a piece of the rocket and a piece of outer space.

Inspiration
In preparing for our Destination: Future Project, we spent time reading, annotating and discussing inspirational articles about the importance of being the change we want to see in the world, about the fact that even small, localized efforts can make a difference and about understanding that many people experience setbacks and failures but that it is important to never give up!
While reading the articles, we continuously drew connections to our future selves by asking, "What does this have to do with my future? Why is understanding this important to my future?" How does my piece of the future fit in with the future of others?
We also spent time answering questions on a questionnaire titled, 10 Questions to Help You Discover Your Future. We used this questionnaire to help us reflect on our interests, goals, challenges and people we admire. Most of us were able to see some commonalities in our personal answers that led to some interesting discussions about how can these questions and answers lead us to discover possibilities for our future.
Maybe after you read the articles below, you might like to ask yourself the same questions!

Our Design Process
In creating our Destination: Future rocket, we each chose one of the sections of the rocket to design. We had to work with two elements: the element of space and the element of the rocket. We chose the type of medium that we wanted to use to create our designs and we chose what we wanted to take with us to our future.
Each individual's design can be seen in the slideshow. The pieces are all different and very specific to the artist but when put together they also become a part of the whole!
You won't see the final rocket until our Destination: Future Reveal but we hope you enjoy seeing the photos of our creative process and individual designs.
